When the printing press first came to be widely used, it set the stage for a massive shift in communication. The Catholic church had a monopoly on theological exploration at the time. This was further exacerbated by their conviction of disseminating their theology in Latin, while the public was largely not versed in Latin at the time. Martin Luther’s reformation shifted the focus of theology away from the church, and toward individuals. Luther argued that each individual had the ability to interpret biblical texts, as the Holy Spirit enables them. The printing press made it possible for the distribution of biblical texts to anyone in any language they preferred.
Fast forward to today and we have had another major shift in communication. The internet and social media enables anyone to engage with anyone else worldwide. The church has been slow in adapting to this communication shift and some have done so haphazardly. I believe that their is great potential and benefit in the ability to discuss and share theological ideas online.
That’s where The Faith Offensive comes in. I’m John, a 28- year old with a bachelors in Theology. I have a great love for theology and a passion to share that with everyone. And, like Luther, I believe that an individuals’ exploration of theology can greatly enhance their life and relationship with God. So lets stick together, explore the bible, grow closer together, and escape the ordinary.
